The train service between Deux-Montagnes and Montreal has had numerous delays lately, particularly since the beginning of 2018;
Repeated delays cause citizens significant loss of time in relation to their work, studies, home life and social activities;
Repeated delays affecting working commuters negatively impacts economic productivity in the metropolitan region;
The province of Quebec, its municipalities and citizens are willing to shift toward more sustainable transportation;
Users pay fares for commuter train services;
A petition, signed by 1001 citizens and submitted to the National Assembly in July 2015, asked for improvements to the quality of service on the Deux-Montagnes train line;
We, the undersigned, call upon:
- The Réseau de transport métropolitain (RTM) to commit to re-establishing in 2018 the average train service punctuality of the last three years, meaning 96% of services arriving on-time;
- The (RTM) and the Autorité régionale du transport métropolitain (ARTM) to offer a service guarantee to users. Such a guarantee would outline what users can expect from their train service and specify compensation when delays occur;
- Elected officials in Montreal and the metropolitan region to commit to improving service along the line without waiting for the introduction of the Réseau express métropolitain (REM), notably with multilevel trains, as well as with more train and shuttle services at stations;
- The RTM to improve contingency services when delays occur on the line and to inform users in a timely manner when contingency services are being offered.
